European Reading Challenge

We’re 18 days in, but I’m going to start the year right. I want to pick back up on my reading habit and build up my reviews so I can think more deeply about what I’m consuming. Hence, the motivation to sign on to challenges and achieve this systemically was exceptionally high.

When I stumbled upon this European Reading Challenge by Rose City Reader, I jumped to participate! My literature has always been quite Eurocentric, despite my background. Having been living on the continent for three years now, and having many books by splendid – and often unknown – European authors on my TBR, this challenge was perfect for me. Many of the books I’m considering are also in foreign languages, which adds an extra dimension to this challenge!

I’ll be doing the Five Star (Deluxe Entourage) package! That means five books, five authors, five countries. So far, this is my list. It’s highly likely to change. Given the diversity, I’ve also listed language, author’s origin, and setting, in that order.

1. HHhH by Laurent Binet
French | France | Czech Republic
Note: this is a reread; I read it in English the first time
2.What I Saw by Joseph Roth
English | Austria | Germany
3. Sommerboken by Tove Jansson
Norwegian | Finland | Ambiguous
4. (Possibly Greece or western Russia related)
5. (Something Spain-related)

Like all the challenges I’m participating in, this will definitely crossover to my Goodreads 2018 challenge, and possibly a Continental Reading Challenge that I’m considering. All the challenges I’m participating in can be seen here, and I’ll keep that list posted with my eventual book choices!
